Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

CONDITIONS: This permit is issued subject to the following conditions:-

1              That the alterations, additions, and/or demolition are carried out strictly in accordance with IQHAYIYA DESIGN WORKSHOP ARCHITECTS drawing no.: K2016_5 1 100, 101 Rev F, 102, 103 Rev F, 200 Rev E, 300 Rev F, 301, dated 2019/02/07. ROBERT JW BRUSSE ARCHITECT drawing no.: 2016.05.01, 2016.05.02, 2016.05.03, DATED: 05/02/2019;

2              That the Implementing Agent must supply full specifications, working drawings and bill of quantities to the KZN Amafa and Research Institute (the Institute), and invite the Institute staff to all site meetings and supply staff with the minutes thereof;

3              That the Municipality exercises it oversight role as owner of the site and that the Implementing Agent handles all communication between the parties;

4              That the work on the Strachan Memorial Hall and any impact thereon is supervised by the heritage conservation architect, Robert Brusse, and is carried out by persons with experience in conservation work;

5              That, in the event of any contemplated deviation from the approved plans – including the transfer of the work to the supervision of another architect – a   written motivation in support of the deviations must be submitted to the KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute for consideration and the prior written approval of the Institute must be obtained, before any deviations are carried out;

6              Any salvageable items not required for re-use in the project must be offered to the Institute’s Conservation Materials Bank and all salvageable elements identified must be delivered to the Institute’s Conservation Materials Bank, Midmar, Howick, at the Applicant’s cost.

7              Where archaeological material or human remains are uncovered during excavation, the Institute must be contacted immediately in order to determine the significance of the find and mitigation required (a professional archaeologist may need to be employed).

8              A copy of this permit must be kept on the site at all times.

9              The issuing of this permit does not exempt the Applicant from obtaining the approval for the proposed work from the Local Authority or any other Authority, where required.

 

THE KWAZULU-NATAL AMAFA AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW THIS PERMIT IF ANY OF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS ARE NOT COMPLIED WITH. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE CONDITIONS WILL RENDER ANY DEVIATION FROM THE ORIGINAL (PLANS) UNLAWFUL, AND THE INSTITUTE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TAKE CRIMINAL AND/OR CIVIL ACTION AGAINST THE PERSON/S RESPONSIBLE.
