ProposalDescription:

Proposed Alterations and Additions on Erf R/326 being at 119 Doble Road, Ocean view, Bluff, Durban.

Expanded_Motivation:

We proposed to extend the existing building back towards the back of the site, and enhance the front facade by adding a first floor. The columns with be extended up, creating a balcony. Proposed additions and alterations will provide the owner with much needed space and will allow the owner to maintain the existing. Our interpretation of what a dwelling is, has changed frequently and significantly over the past 60 years, within the South African context,is but a brief moment in our history. Along with the change in interpretation, comes a change in the demand we place on our dwellings, to aid us in our day-to-day activity. The degree to which a building aids us also forces us to place a value on the building. If the building doesn’t suit our needs of the day, we long to live elsewhere and this means we don’t value the building anymore. As long as we don’t value something financially, we are less likely to invest in it and as long as we don’t invest in our heritage, our heritage is at risk of losing its Emotional value. What we hope to achieve not only aims to aid the current owners in their stewardship but to also add value for future generations. Future generations will be able to make memories which add to the importance of heritage. We also hope to further embolden the building's architectural aesthetic and improve its street presence, so that it may be seen by the community. We ultimately wish to strengthen the value we and the community place on 119 Doble road. Please see my uploaded annexure for the Motivation.
