Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Expanded_Motivation: 

The building is listed in B.Kearney's "A Revised listing of Important Places and Buildings in Durban" estimated to have been built in 1925 and was built as the Mansfield School situated on Mansfield Road (Steve Biko Rd). Modern multi-storey classroom blocks are estimated to have been added in the1970's. The property was incorporated into the DUT campus as the drama department- exact dates unknown. The refurbishment includes replacing complete roof, ceilings, all services in the ceiling, complete painting internally and externally, upgrade floor finishes, replacing existing damaged timber windows with new aluminium powder coated white windows and externally landscaping(soft and hard areas). Currently rainwater is coming through the existing roof causing the ceiling to fall apart. Existing equipment, walls and floors are being damaged due to the condition of the existing roof. Additional work is the amphitheatre seating in the courtyard and the provision of a store/workshop space involving the demolition of some internal walls. Proposed work is listed below and referenced in red on the drawings: 1. Proposed amphitheatre seating in brick and concrete -see section FF 2. Courtyard landscaping and lights removed, new paving and stormwater drainage 3. Exg timber and steel windows replaced with powder coated aluminium frame windows 4. Exg doors to theatre bricked up, garage door replaced 5. Air-conditioning units removed and openings bricked up 6. Security gates added 7. External finishes refurbished. 8. Internal finishes refurbished, floors sanded and sealed, carpet’s removed, partitioning removed.
