Heritage Cases

There are two existing buildings (older than 60 years: 1. The Family Court: On erf previously called erf 437. Age unknown, dated to 1890's. 2. Court & Cells: On erf previously called erf 434. Building erected in 1942. The Cell within the Court building and the new court room were only added in 1978 and 2002. Removing the Cell building together with its' access staircases as well as opening up the closed off entrance for the link between the old and new buildings and replacing the existing tiled roof with steel sheeting will restore the Court building to its’ original layout of 1942. Proposed site works: Demolition of some structures, removal of trees, slabs, free standing walls, internal fencing and some boundary fencing. New boundary fencing to resemble remaining fencing. Proposed work to the Family Court building: Repair and restoration, addition of a toilet in the passage space, removal of air-conditioning which will be replaced with a less invasive air-conditioning system, two larger rooms will be divided into two spaces and a mechanical duct will be provisioned within the building. Proposed work to the Court and Cells building: Repair and restoration, demolition of the Cell Block and both access staircases, replace existing timber truss and tiled roof with a timber truss and steel sheeting roof, linking the old building with the new building, removal of air-conditioning which will be replaced with a less invasive air-conditioning system, Splitting large areas into smaller areas, closing off of some doors.
